Alternating current
Alternating current is an electrical current that periodically changes direction. Accordingly, an alternating voltage is an oscillating electrical voltage. Typically, the current and voltage oscillate sinusoidally at a fixed frequency. For example, the grid frequency of 50 Hertz (50 Hz) used in the European interconnection system means that the voltage oscillates 50 times per second. Alternatively, alternating current is also referred to as three-phase current. |
